Kumho Tires Picked as Original Equipment on Audi’s Q5 Series

The new Audi Q5 Series will have Kumho Tires as original equipment. This is thanks to a decision made by Audi to make Kumho Tire the OE supplier for the new luxury compact SUV.

The type of tire picked is the Kumho Crugen Premium KL33. It will be available in size 235/55R19. Speaking about the partnership, Kumho said that the Crugen series was developed to complement urban SUVs. It has been widely recognized as an SUV-exclusive tire. The KL33, in particular, features a silica compound that enhances traction, reduces rolling resistance, and increases tire life. In addition, it boosts the car’s fuel economy and provides a quiet and comfortable ride.

Production is currently taking place at Kumho’s Macon plant in Georgia which will supply tires to Audi’s Son Jose Chiapa-based production site in Mexico. According to Kumho’s senior vice president of OE sales, the partnership is an indication of the continuous commitment the tire manufacturer has to providing high-quality Kumho tires. The Crugen KL33 is to be produced in high volume and in the exact specification required.

The Audi Q5 will be powered by a 4-cylinder 2-liter turbocharged engine that channels all that power through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This will get the car from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds and provide a towing capacity of up to 4,400 pounds. Volkswagen Group sold more than 67,000 Q5s last year. It hopes to sell more this year as the demand for SUVs continues to increase in America. The Crugen KL33 will also be an the original equipment in the VW Atlas seven-seater SUV.
