The GMC Hummer EV is an off-road vehicle that’s expected to debut some time in 2022. General Motors has been releasing teaser images of this anticipated EV, and from what we can tell, there’s a lot to look forward to. Just last week, the car manufacturer released a new alloy wheel design on this all-electric utility vehicle. Rumors have it that the wheel designs could house a new set of Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires.
The Hummer EV is described as an all-electric vehicle that boasts of great on- and off-road performance. This means that it’s going to need some tough rubber underneath to translate all that power into actual road performance.
The vehicle is expected to churn up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque in the top variant. This should allow it to get from 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds. With 4WD, all that output needs some capable tires that can take some hardcore treatment.
Some of the images of the Hummer EV show a vehicle that has been stripped down to its bare metal to reveal a new smaller wheel design covered in aggressive tires that boast of a knobby pattern and thick sidewalls. The fine print on the tire sidewall reveals something that resembles the Nitto Terra Grappler G2.
Since the Hummer EV will be marketed as an all-terrain light truck tire, the Grappler G2 provides the much-needed on and off-road capabilities that are a great fit for the truck. It’s worth noting, however, that General Motors hasn’t yet confirmed that the truck will sport this set of Nitto tires. Secondly, the tread pattern design that’s seen on the images doesn’t match the current tread pattern that is found on the actual Grappler G2 tire.
It’s also important to note that the GMC Hummer EV will be available as an SUV and pickup truck. It will ride on the GM BT1 electric vehicle platform. The expected range is 400 miles, thanks to the Ultium battery tech from GM. Production will take place at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck facility.
