What is the advantage of 35-inch tires?

35-inch tires are very popular among truck owners because they’re tall enough to give an ordinary truck adequate ground clearance and improve its performance, especially on rocky and sloppy terrains. These tires will increase your trucks’s traction, allowing you to drive comfortably on rough and off-road terrain learn.

Unlike smaller tires, which are likely to get stuck in the mud when they cut through it to get down to the firm ground for traction, 35-inch tires are big enough to offer flotation. So, instead of cutting through the mud, they resist sinking, enabling your vehicle to drive on top of the mud especially with mud terrain tires.

35-inch tires are offered in Highway, All-Terrain & Mud Terrain tread patterns.

What size is a 35-inch tire?

A 35 inch tire can often be slightly smaller or bigger depending on the brand. When the size is displayed in a standard size (35x12.50r17) the first series of numbers (35) represents the tire diameter while the (12.50) represents the width and the number after the r (17) is the wheel diameter.

When you’re measuring tires, you multiply the metric value by the aspect ratio. The metric value is the width of the tire, while the aspect ratio is the height of the sidewall. The aspect ratio has to be multiplied by two because a tire has two sidewalls. Then, you have to divide it by the wheel inch and the wheel size.

This may seem complicated but the 35-inch measurement is the tire’s diameter, which is indicated as 315 millimeters. Therefore, 315/70/17 is the recognized metric comparable size for the standard 35-inch tires – 315/70R17 = 35 inches. Here is the formula for calculating this tire size:

  • 315 = the width in millimeters
  • 70 = the aspect ratio of the sidewall
  • 315 width x .70 = 220.5 millimeters
  • 220.50 x 2 = 441 millimeters
  • 441 millimeters ÷ 25.4 = 17.36
  • 17.36 inches + 17 inches = 34.36 inches (approximate tire diameter)

What size wheel is best for 35s?

When you’re buying tires for your vehicle, make sure they’re compatible with the size of your rims. 35 inch tires are offered for rim diameters ranging from fifteen inch all the way up to twenty six inch.

Are 35-inch tires worth it for the price?

35-inch tires are worth it if your intended purpose is to achieve more ground clearance by use of your tire. They will improve your vehicle’s performance on rough, sloppy, and slippery terrains because they roll over the mud instead of cutting through it with your tire. This minimizes the risk of getting stuck in the mud or slithering.

Furthermore, 35-inch tires will roll over obstacles on the road, especially when you’re driving on rough terrain, instead of mounting it, making your ride uncomfortable. Therefore, these tires will enhance your vehicle’s performance without compromising your ride’s comfort.

Do 35-inch tires affect gas mileage?

If you upgrade from 33-inch tires to 35-inch tires, you’ll experience a one to two MPG difference in your gas mileage. This difference occurs due to the additional unsprung weight that comes with the wider diameter tire and overall tire circumference. The tread pattern of your tire will also affect your MPG as a mud terrain tire being heavier than an all terrain tire or higheway tread tire as mud terrain tire has thicker knobbies.

What size lift do I need for 35-inch tires?

Most vehicles require a lift when upgrading to 35-inch tires. This lift ranges between a level lift and six inches. It's all dependent on your trucks stock clearance.
