Ford Bronco Gets Performance Kit and BFGoodrich Tires

The Ford Bronco is now available with a tuned 4-cylinder engine that improves drivability and power. Ford Performance included a Performance Calibration kit built in-house to ensure it complies with the factory warranty.

Buyers that go for the tuned Bronco get the opportunity to fit a new set of 37×12.5R17 KO2 BFGoodrich tires. These are the same tires that come with the Bronco Raptor. In addition, they also get an axle ratio of up to 4.70.

The ordinary Bronco features a 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine that churns 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque when running on 93-octane gas. The new performance kit raises this to 330 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque.

For comparison, the 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 produces 330 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The performance kit also improves throttle response. It optimizes the shift schedule in the transmission for models that have a 10-speed automatic.

It also includes a rev-matching function that steps in during downshifting for SUVs that feature the seven-speed manual. The kit costs $825 without installation. It comes with a 3-year or 36,000-mile warranty that begins on the vehicle’s in-service date.

However, it’s good to note that the kit has not been approved by regulators and lawmakers in California for the 2022 Bronco models. Buyers will have to settle for the 2021 models or the stock EcoBoost. The performance kit is, however, street-legal in other states.
