Residents of Delta County will have a unique opportunity to recycle old tires at a reduced cost this July.
The Delta County Solid Waste Management Authority has allocated $12,000 for residential tire recycling, thanks to grants from the Hannahville Indian Community and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
During this initiative, special rates will be offered: $2.00 for car and truck tires, whether on rims or not, and up to $10.00 for tractor or semi-truck tires. These rates represent more than a 50% discount.
“This program offers an affordable way for people to recycle,” said Administration Manager Terri Rabitoy. “It will help prevent illegal dumping on roadsides and in wooded areas, thereby keeping our community clean.”
Residents of Delta County can recycle up to 10 tires per day. The program begins on July 1 and will continue until the grant funds are exhausted.
