Continental Tires has introduced the Conti HDL 3 EP, a cutting-edge drive tire designed specifically for the U.S. long-haul market. The company claims that this new tire blends advanced carbon black and silica technology, striking an optimal balance between rolling resistance and durability. According to Continental, the tire’s polymer matrix-bound silica compound enhances rolling resistance by up to 10% compared to the previous model, making it an environmentally conscious choice with SmartWay verification for Class 8 long-haul tractor trailers.
Shaun Uys, the head of Continental’s truck tire replacement business in the U.S., explained that the Conti HDL 3 EP addresses key fleet priorities. He highlighted features such as its design on a 3G casing for maximum retreadability, improved rolling resistance, and uniform wear patterns. Uys emphasized that the tire was crafted with the goal of reducing overall driving costs for fleets.
The tire boasts a closed shoulder design that not only improves mileage but also reduces rolling resistance, according to the company. Its optimized footprint ensures even wear, while an innovative groove geometry helps minimize stone retention. Additionally, the new model offers up to 15% better cut and chip resistance compared to its predecessor, enhancing its suitability for long-distance operations.
Built on Continental’s 3G casing with a 240-245 mm retread width, the Conti HDL 3 EP is equipped with a durable belt package that mitigates heat buildup, extends lifespan, and maximizes retreadability. For added convenience, the tire is compatible with the company’s *ContiConnect Live* digital tire monitoring system, enabling fleet managers to monitor tire performance in real-time.
The Conti HDL 3 EP is being introduced to the replacement market in size 295/75R22.5 with load range G. Additional sizes are expected to be available for both replacement and original equipment markets by the first quarter of 2025, according to Continental.
