Continental Receives Highest Award for Sustainability Practices

Continental AG has received the prestigious platinum sustainability rating from EcoVadis, marking it as one of the world’s top one percent companies in its sector. The recognition follows a rigorous evaluation, where the automotive and tire manufacturing giant scored an impressive 84 out of 100 points — a significant improvement from last year’s score of 74.

EcoVadis, a global leader in business sustainability ratings, rated Continental on four main dimensions: environmental practice, ethical behavior, labor and human rights, and sustainable purchasing. Remarkably, the firm performed very high in labor rights and responsible sourcing.

This platinum award is the most prestigious presented by EcoVadis, whose rating system is trusted by over 150,000 companies globally. The platform of the company allows for transparent tracking and benchmarking against supply chain sustainability activities, presenting bronze, silver, gold, and platinum medals to top performers.

Jorge Almeida, senior director of sustainability at Continental Tires, described the award as a testament to the company’s comprehensive and ongoing commitment to sustainable development. He reiterated that the integration of environmentally friendly practices is not department-specific but is interspersed throughout every stage of Continental’s operations — from the use of sustainable materials, through to the recycling of waste tires.

Almeida explained the recognition is bigger than a win. For him, it bears witness to the level to which sustainability has been integrated into the company’s global strategy and operational structure and promoted efforts to create innovative, sustainable products and services.

Continental, in pushing transformation in the industry, the platinum rating by EcoVadis puts on display its leadership status as a sustainability driver in the automotive and tire supply chain industry.
