Continental Supplies EcoContact 6 Q Tires for Renault’s New Electric R5

Renault’s highly anticipated electric rebirth of the iconic R5 will roll out of production lines with Continental’s EcoContact 6 Q tires, developed specifically for electric mobility. Renault-exclusive “R” sidewall indication on the 18-inch tires will adorn this original equipment for the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, which is set to shake up urban driving with a mix of retro chic and cutting-edge electric technology.

Continental’s EcoContact 6 Q tires were specifically created to meet the special requirements of electric vehicles. Crafted with care towards energy efficiency, reduced road noise, and improved ride comfort, these Continental tires will enhance both performance and eco-friendliness. The tires’ special rubber compound decreases rolling resistance by restricting energy absorption, which maximizes driving range—the all-important factor for EV drivers.

Tire engineers also refined the tread pattern, with modified blocks, sipes, and lateral grooves to provide excellent handling, short braking distances, and cornering stability, even when driven faster. These refinements provide robust performance on wet and dry surfaces, making sure the R5 E-Tech Electric stays grippy and safe in any weather.

Continental has worked on acoustic comfort, one of the core challenges of EV design: noise in the cabin. By reducing rolling noise, the EcoContact 6 Q helps with a more quiet ride, enhancing the nature of electric drivetrains to be silent.

Continental’s 18-inch EcoContact 6 Q R tire in the size 195/55 R18 93H XL has been given global approval as original equipment for the R5 E-Tech Electric, further establishing Continental’s leadership in driving the electric mobility transition. The tires are specially developed to carry the added weight of EV battery packs thanks to higher load-carrying capacity.

Today, 18 out of the world’s 20 leading electric vehicle manufacturers fit their EVs with Continental tires in standard form, a testament to the company’s dominance of the EV segment. With the Renault R5 E-Tech new vehicle, Continental further extends the boundaries of tire technology for mobility of the future.
