Open Buggies Running On GEOLANDAR M/T G003 Yokohama Tires Win Off-Road Race

The ULTRA4 Racing is a race series that features open buggies that are also called Ultra4 vehicles. The competition involves driving on different terrains including competition-style rock crawls and desert racing. At the heart of the competition is the need for speed, endurance, and technique on rough roads.

The King Shocks Area BFE Beatdown, for example, involves running over a hilly and rocky six-mile course. The 4800 class race includes five laps that add up to 30 miles. Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., recently announced that two vehicles that were running on the GEOLANDAR M/T G003 mud-terrain tires for pickup trucks and SUVs finished first and second in the 4800 class of the 2021 King Shocks Area BFE Beatdown.

This is an off-road race that was held in Utah between April 2 and 4. The King Shocks Area BFE Beatdown is the first rigorous race that the vehicles must start with while in the ULTRA4 Racing West Series. More than 20 vehicles competed in the 4800 class. The GEOLANDAR M/T G300 Yokohama tires provided superior handling performance and endurance. They contributed to the success of Cody Young who finished first and David Hartman who was the runner-up.

The tires were hailed for having an exceptionally long lifespan while delivering superior performance on a full range of off-road surfaces. Their aggressive and sturdy design also contributes to the sensation that drivers get when driving off-road. Different models of the Yokohama GEOLANDAR tires have showcased their superior off-road performance in several races in past years. This includes the APL SMOKIN’ WHEELS 2018 championship that was held in Guam, the 2019 Tatts Finke Desert Race held in Australia, and the 2020 BlueWater Desert Challenge that was held in North America as the final event of the off-road racing series Best In The Desert.

Yokohama has a three-year medium-term management plan that will run from 2021 to 2023. The plan is dubbed the Yokohama Transformation 2023 (YX2023) and aims to maximize the sales ratio of its high-value-added Yokohama tires. This includes its flagship ADVAN brand, the GEOLANDAR brand made for pickup trucks and SUVs, and other winter tires.

The YX2023 management plan views motorsports activities as a crucial strategy to improve the development and design of the GEOLANDAR and ADVAN tires. Yokohama’s participation will continue as the company eyes a wide range of motorsports events in Japan and the rest of the world. This includes top-tier categories and grassroot competitions.
