Avon is a well-known tire brand in the UK under Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. Some of its notable tires include the Cobra series made for large cruisers and the 3D Super Sport series designed for sporty bikes and riders.
The brand’s motorcycle tires are produced in Melksham, UK. In a recent announcement, Cooper Tire said that it plans to close the plant due to an increasingly challenging business environment.
According to the HR director, Gavin Champion, it has been extremely hard for the team at Cooper to keep the plant competitive. Its profits have declined continuously. Some of its production was relocated to other regions in 2018.
The factory, which has been in operation since the 1950s, will shut down completely by end of 2023. About 350 employees are set to lose their jobs. The company has plans to offer support to those that will be affected.
