In a recent development, Hankook Tire acquired autonomous driving startup 3Secondz in a bid to use its technology to improve its digital innovation capabilities.

The latter was founded by Jim Jae-woo from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST). He developed an autonomous driving system backed by advanced driving data. This included the data collection system ‘XYRO’ and the analysis software ‘TeamSolution.’

Hankook and 3Secondz have worked together since 2020. The former has used the latter’s vehicle control system to offer solutions to its tire Technoring test track technology.

3Secondz introduced a car in June last year that was able to test the durability and grip of Hankook tires on roads covered with gravel. Hankook’s Technoring technology was able to facilitate this and commercialize autonomous driving for harsh driving conditions.

Once the acquisition is complete, 3Secondz’s staff will be absorbed into Hankook and will continue to develop mobility solutions. The collaboration will facilitate the development of innovative technologies and lead to a bright future in the mobility market.
