Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has formed a partnership with tire manufacturer Pirelli to launch tires made from FSC-certified natural rubber for its luxury vehicles. This new initiative will result in the use of over 250,000 FSC-certified tires annually, starting with the upcoming Range Rover Electric.
This collaboration aims to enhance sustainable tire production, support forest preservation, and promote responsible development.
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification process ensures that certified materials are kept separate from non-certified ones throughout the supply chain. This guarantees that the rubber is sourced sustainably, aiding in the preservation of biodiversity and providing economic benefits to local communities and workers.
Andrea Debbane, JLR’s sustainability director, commented on the significance of the partnership: “This is a key moment in our journey towards sustainable luxury. By working with Pirelli, a leader in sustainable tire production, we can provide our clients with high-quality, high-performance tires while supporting responsible forest management and benefiting the communities in our supply chain.”
Matteo Battaini, Pirelli’s head of sustainability and new mobility, highlighted the advantages of the FSC certification: “The FSC certification ensures that forests are managed to protect biodiversity and support local workers and communities economically. We are delighted that JLR is the first automaker to adopt Pirelli’s FSC-certified tires across a diverse range of vehicles.”
Beyond introducing FSC-certified tires, JLR and Pirelli are also collaborating to increase the use of sustainable and recycled materials in all Pirelli tires supplied to JLR.
