Beontag and Michelin Forge Partnership to Revolutionize Tire Traceability

Beontag, a global leader in the production of self-adhesive and smart tagging solutions like RFID, NFC, and Bluetooth Low Energy technologies, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with tire giant Michelin. Starting in 2025, Beontag’s cutting-edge TireTag technology will be integrated into millions of commercial and passenger vehicle tires, marking a transformative milestone for tire lifecycle traceability.

The partnership introduces ultra-high-frequency (UHF) smart tires equipped with a co-patented RFID-enabled pod and antenna. These components, embedded seamlessly within the tire, will facilitate complete lifecycle monitoring. Data such as manufacturing details, storage locations, distribution routes, installation and replacement history, and refurbishment activities will be traceable, providing unprecedented insights into tire management.

Following the initial rollout with Michelin, Beontag’s innovative TireTag system is set to expand to other tire brands. In particular, the technology addresses upcoming regulatory needs within the European Union (EU). From 2026, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Product Regulations (ESPR) will require Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for various products, including tires. By integrating RFID technology, all new Michelin tires will be compliant, ensuring they meet the sustainability and traceability standards outlined by the ESPR.

The collaboration between Beontag and Michelin began in 2019, focusing on the development of a state-of-the-art UHF RFID tag specifically designed for tires. After extensive research, development, and rigorous testing, the result is the Gen4 TireTag, a robust and durable tag capable of lasting through one million kilometers of driving. Designed to endure even the harsh vulcanization and retreading processes typical of truck tires, the Gen4 TireTag is a testament to advanced engineering.

Speaking about the achievement, Suchi Srinivasan, Beontag’s Vice President of Digital Transformation, expressed pride in the milestone. She highlighted that the technology not only addresses current market demands but also supports sustainable practices and future mobility solutions. Srinivasan emphasized Beontag’s commitment to creating durable and reliable RFID solutions tailored to modern vehicles. She added that the collaboration with Michelin represents a significant stride in advancing their RFID technology across the automotive sector, enabling enhanced operational efficiency and sustainability.

Michelin’s RFID System Designer, Laurent Couturier, shared similar sentiments. He underlined the crucial role RFID technology plays in tire management, explaining that it allows precise, automated tracking from production through to recycling or retreading. He noted that the collaborative efforts with Beontag had resulted in an innovative RFID solution capable of meeting both economic and ecological challenges while paving the way for smarter mobility systems.

As Beontag and Michelin continue to drive innovation, the partnership sets a precedent for the tire industry, blending advanced technology with sustainability to redefine vehicle and tire lifecycle management.
