Yokohama Tire Launches Tough 116R Steer Tire for Severe Road Conditions

To improve performance in regional fleets, Yokohama Tire has introduced the 116R, an all-new all-position steer tire that is designed to provide consistent performance during severe driving conditions. Yokohama has announced official availability of the 116R in the US market.

Made at Yokohama’s Mississippi manufacturing facility, the 116R is presently manufactured in three sizes: 11R22.5, 295/75R22.5, and 11R24.5. The tire has a 7-year unlimited retread casing warranty, demonstrating the company’s confidence in the tire’s longevity and strength.

Company officials described the 116R as a solution that was specifically engineered to answer the demands of regional trucking, particularly noted for its extended tread life and structural durability. Yokohama went on to describe the tire as being particularly designed to bear the day-to-day wear and tear associated with rough, unpredictable roads and inclement weather conditions.

Tom Clauer, commercial product planning chief for Yokohama, spoke of the tire’s functional benefits for fleets. The 116R was not only designed, he said, to provide improved tread life for long periods of time, but to also contribute to fuel savings, particularly in super-regional service. For Clauer, the tire provides a safe, money-saving choice that can keep pace with use on a around-the-clock basis.

Key strengths of the 116R include:

  • Exceptional tread life;
  • Local operations with high durability;
  • Enhanced fuel economy for super-regional haul.

With the launch of the 116R, Yokohama is reaffirming its dedication to innovation in the commercial tire manufacturing process, addressing evolving needs of trucking fleets in challenging operating environments.
