Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has now cut all of its ties with American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) as a distributor of its Cooper and Mastercraft tire brands, confirming that ATD will no longer supply tires under its Medallion or Century dealer programs, or Mickey Thompson products.
This comes after Goodyear’s purchase in March of ATD by Asphalt Buyer II, which the firm clarified is not a qualified wholesale distributor for its Cooper-related initiatives. In a statement to Modern Tire Dealer (MTD), the tire company emphasized that customers under its Century, Medallion, and Mickey Thompson brands will continue to have uninterrupted product supply through its authorized distribution channel.
These authorized distributors include TireHub, the national tire distributor Goodyear and Bridgestone Americas introduced in 2018. TireHub began stocking Cooper tires in April 2022, with Mickey Thompson lines in May 2023, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of Goodyear’s distribution platform.
In a second recent dealer letter, Goodyear has called this transition as “rare opportunity” to transition their Medallion and Century initiatives over to direct shipments or new wholesale distribution (WD) partners. Current ATD dealers buying in are being asked to choose an alternate distributor. Incentives reached to date will roll forward, and sales made through ATD up through June 17 will still be credited toward goals.
In addition, Goodyear is offering a $750 bonus to dealers who meet their 2025 program targets with a new WD by year end. Conversely, ATD can make SSP and automobile dealer deliveries utilizing available stock through September 30, 2025.
Goodyear described the transition as difficult but a step needed to secure growth, alignment, and stability. The company is inviting its current distribution partners to step forward during the transition and reaffirm commitment to the Cooper and Mickey Thompson brands. ATD has issued no comment on the transition.
