Yokohama Tire got a lot of media attention at the latest TMC show in Atlanta with the introduction of two new fuel-saving trailer tires: the BluEarth 109L and its ultra wide base brother, the BluEarth 109L UWB. The SmartWay-approved lines are now available in the U.S. and Canada, further solidifying Yokohama’s commitment to commercial performance and environmental stewardship.
The BluEarth 109L UWB will first be available in size 445/50R22.5, with the standard 109L produced in four sizes: 295/75R22.5, 11R22.5, 285/75R24.5, and 11R24.5. All sizes are being produced in Yokohama’s newly opened factory in West Point, Mississippi.
Tom Clauer, commercial and OTR product planning manager at Yokohama, mentioned the advanced engineering of the tires. According to Clauer, the BluEarth 109L UWB sets the bar high in terms of fuel efficiency with one of the lowest rolling resistance coefficients (RRCs) in its category. This is achieved using a new rubber compound and specially designed tread with seven circumferential grooves, ensuring smooth rolling and reduced fuel consumption.
In addition to fuel efficiency, the tire design focuses on durability and long wear life. A zero-degree belt construction produces a stable footprint that promotes long, even wear of the tread. A blend of specially designed sipes delivers enhanced traction, with strong braking under adverse weather conditions.
The robust casing build-up—capable of supporting sharp corners, curbing, and side stress—is given the tire a six-year, three-retread warranty for the UWB model. The complete 109L line also comes with a seven-year, unlimited retread warranty, expressing the company’s confidence in the tire’s durability.
Aiding its value, the 109L features small tread blocks and a five-rib design that together deliver both fuel economy and outstanding traction, making it an attractive option for fleets concerned with both performance and economy.
Through the addition of these new trailer Yokohama tires, the company reinforces its role in the commercial tire market by offering intelligent, fuel-saving solutions backed by strength and warranty protection.
