Hankook Tire is boosting its presence in the electric vehicle market by introducing a new tire in its iON product range. The newly launched iON HT is specifically designed for light commercial vehicles and large electric SUVs, meeting the unique needs of heavier EV models.
The “HT” in its name means “Highway-Terrain.” According to Hankook, this all-season tire combines low rolling resistance for better energy efficiency with high strength and stability for longer durability and a smoother ride on highways. With an ‘XL’ load capacity rating, the iON HT can handle the extra weight of large batteries, enabling electric trucks and SUVs to manage heavier loads during everyday use.
Rob Williams, President of Hankook Tire America Corp., pointed out that the increasing size of electric trucks and SUVs presents new technical challenges for tire design. He noted that the iON HT was developed from the ground up to deliver outstanding performance for EVs. This reflects Hankook’s commitment to driving innovation with its iON line.
The iON HT debuted at the Electrify Expo 2025 in Los Angeles. Like the other Hankook tires in the iON family, it offers reduced rolling resistance and low noise, along with the structural strength required to handle high torque from electric drivetrains.
The tire will come in sizes ranging from 18 to 22 inches, with speed ratings of T or H, and will be available starting in August. Hankook’s iON series first launched in 2022 and now includes summer, winter, and all-season options. This expansion contributes to the company’s specialized EV lineup, which includes city buses, motorsport, and now larger utility vehicles.
As electric vehicles continue to increase in size and weight, Hankook’s latest product aims to help address the challenges of heavier loads while ensuring driving comfort and reducing environmental impact.
